She said this year we have recorded twenty three polio cases‚ the figure we can not afford to have in the country. She said the polio campaign was first launched by her mother Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who never wanted to see Pakistan's children crippled by this disease.
When asked what strategy she is pursuing to confront those parents and families who are not willing to get their children vaccinated‚ Aseefa Bhutto Zardari said certain groups in the country are against the polio vaccination campaigns. However‚ she termed their opposition to the campaign as a politically motivated.
She said that President Asif Ali Zardari in 2011 launched a national emergency plan that strategized how to reach out to the people in the troubled tribal areas. With this plan‚ she said‚ we have been able to reach some children and we are trying to get the maximum number of children vaccinated.
